Often, in pop culture, we see that beauty is defined by how much makeup we wear or what kind of clothes we wear. For this experiment, I took a shower and started.
Left Side (your right side):
I left my face completely natural. I didn’t do anything to my hair, all I did was pull it up, I left my face completely bare and wore a hoodie to show what I usually wear. This is how I look on a day to day basis, and I like it. It’s easy and simple and clean. I prefer it.
Right Side (your left):
For the right side of my face, I completely straightened my hair and did all of my makeup, wore a dress and earrings. I guess this is what I would dress like if I wanted to go on a night out or something.
This is what I looked like:
What I want to know is this: which side do people prefer? In my daily life, people only seem to notice me, guys only seem to notice me, if I look like the right side. Thing is, it bugs me. I mean, yes, I do feel a bit more confident and more sexy if I wear makeup and a cute dress, but does that really take away from the fact that I think I look beautiful without makeup and hair being done? Why has society told us that we have to be all dolled up in order to be beautiful? I’m not saying that makeup is bad, I’m just wondering why we have to wear it to feel good. Honestly, I want to know an answer to why people tend to gravitate toward the right side.
half and half... they gravitate towards the "put together". Someone who has themselves appealing. I remember you asking me several times if I was going to go "out" like that (meaning without any makeup or my hair brushed). Even you know it was and is important to look good not for the other sex (or to be sexy) but to just look good. The great thing about you is your features are so outstanding regardless but BOY do they pop when you put a little eyeliner or mascara on or lip gloss. It's like you shine even brighter (and no I am not saying this just because I am your mom). I'm saying this because even your attitude changes and people do talk to you a bit different. You act older and hold your head higher. It is wild to watch but I see it with you and it is fun to watch. Excellent job with this picture and its presentation. You rock! I miss you terribly! I gravitate towards well.... the middle. Too much make up for me so the middle (Unless you were going out at night. But boy I wish I got to take pictures of you all made up. YEP! You reminded me of PJ in this picture btw. Love you lots!!
ReplyDeleteTorrey, you are gorgeous no matter what you do! I agree with you mom, it's the confidence that you project when you have taken the time to look good. Boys will be boys and unfortunately media has given our society a warped idea of what is pretty or sexy, if you will. You, my friend, have personality and that's where it's at! Project that wonderful vitality regardless of how dolled up you are and you'll have everything you ever wanted and more!
ReplyDeleteI like the natural!! Grandma
ReplyDeleteI really loved this blog post because I feel the exact same way. For me personaly I try to find a sort of balance between the two. Personally I favor the more natural side. I guss a woman feels more confidnet in make up because it feels like they are presenting themselves in the best light and hiding the imperfections. That is at least my personal thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI honestly prefer the natural. =] I think you're gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI personally never wear make-up, but all of my friends find it hard to leave the house without it and depend on it to feel attractive, so I understand where this post is coming from. Well done for expressing the topic so creatively.
Agreeing with the people who said they prefer the natural. Your hair is lovely, I wish mine was less straight and more like that!

You're really cute! I think you are beautiful without makeup, but a little makeup would also make you look amazing for a fancy night, etc. You're wearing too much makeup in that pic though =]
